With just eight games remaining in Leatherhead’s fight for

survival, we have reached the point where every game is a

cup final. The last time these two sides met it ended all

square at 1-1. With both sides sitting dangerously near the

bottom of the table, only 5 points separating the two sides

prior to kick off, it was set to be a very tight game.

But, it was all Leatherhead in the first half and the Tanners

went into the break with a 1-0 lead after a fantastic run from

Jerome Federico who cut inside and finessed the ball round

goalkeeper Tim Roberts, who could only watch as the ball

clipped the inside of the post and nestled in the bottom

corner. It was only a matter of time before this goal as

Leatherhead registered 7 shots off target and 6 on to

Folkstone’s 1 shot – a comfortable save for Louis Wells.

The tanners’ back four held strong and apart from a slight

goal mouth scramble which only led to a Folkstone corner.

The Greens could easily have had two or three more before

half time as swift counter attacking moves were cut out by

the Folkstone defense. Sam Hassler was booked 13 minutes in after blocking Daniel Carr. The second half was a lot less one sided and many Tanners fans were quite nervous as we saw how dramatically a half of football can change a result – we were 2-0 down on Saturday to come back and win 3-2.Folkstone pushed hard for an equalizer but man of the match Danny Murphy and the defense did not let anything past. Folkstone looked certain to score at some point particularly when a whipped cross from the left wing dropped to the back post and was hit on the volley in the 52nd minute. Thankfully for the Greens it bounced over. But the game was put to bed in the 68th minute when Kadell Daniel was bundled over in the box winning the Tanners a crucial penalty. Daniel Carr stepped up to take it after scoring the rebound two his penalty on Saturday. But this time there was no rebound needed as Carr smashed the back of the net without so much of a touch from goalkeeper Tim Roberts. Unfortunately we didn’t see the acrobatic celebration from Saturday! In the remaining 20 minutes, Leatherhead could have got another goal with substitute Calum Davies looking very lively and applying forward pressure. In my opinion: My man of the match would be either Jerome Federico or Danny Murphy. They both played brilliant football that excited all at Fetcham Grove. Daniel Carr is in flying form as well with 3 goals from his last 2 games. We are away on Saturday to Enfield Town, kick off is three o’clock. Come on You Tanners!
